Compare Bitget vs Gate.io perpetuals: funding rates, fees, open interest, trading volume, liquidity, liquidation data and regulatory compliance updated in real-time.
Four weighted criteria, scored out of 10 by Coinperps Research. How we score ›
Each venue's share of the perpetual venues Coinperps tracks, live over the last 24 hours.
One perpetual, both books: where the liquidity and the crowd actually are right now.
Winner marked per row. Funding is an 8-hour equivalent; the lower rate is cheaper for longs. Depth: order-book liquidity within 1% of mid.
Daily funding on each venue's BTC perpetual against the cross-venue median, every venue normalised to an 8-hour equivalent. Persistent gaps are what a carry trade or a long hold actually pays.
Fees, leverage and regulation from each venue's published terms; volume, open interest and funding live from the Coinperps feed. The better figure is marked where one exists.

Bitget is a top-five perpetuals exchange by open interest, founded in 2018, led by CEO Gracy Chen, and serving more than 100 million users across 150+ countries from its Seychelles base with a Vienna headquarters anchoring its European push.
Its derivatives platform runs USDT-margined, USDC-margined, and coin-margined perpetuals at up to 125x leverage, wrapped in the largest copy trading ecosystem in crypto, where any account can mirror elite traders position for position.
TradFi is the growth engine. Bitget cleared close to $70 billion in traditional-asset perpetuals volume in a single quarter, spanning stock perps that trade 24/7 on USDT margin alongside gold, silver, and forex markets.
Security rests on a Protection Fund pledged at $300 million, monthly Merkle-tree Proof of Reserves showing coverage well above 100%, ISO 27001 and 27701 certification, and a clean hack record since founding, though its EU access currently waits on a pending MiCA application.
Gate is the fourth-largest crypto perpetuals venue and one of the oldest exchanges still operating, founded in 2013 by Dr. Lin Han and serving more than 49 million users after its group-wide rebrand from Gate.io. The platform reported $3.8 trillion in 2024 trading volume, with contract trading contributing $2 trillion of it.
Its perpetuals platform spans 560+ pairs at up to 125x leverage in USDT and BTC-margined variants, backed by a unified account, portfolio margin, and a dual-price liquidation system keyed to external spot indexes. Gate also leads every centralized exchange in stock perpetuals open interest, holding nearly double Bybit's total as equity contracts become the market's fastest-growing segment.
Its regulatory map is wider than most offshore rivals can claim. A MiCA license from Malta's MFSA covers the EU alongside a full VARA license in Dubai, and licensed local entities serve Japan through the Coin Master acquisition and Australia under AUSTRAC registration.
Bitget and Gate.io both sit outside the top three (Binance, Bybit, OKX) but compete for different types of trader. Bitget is derivatives-focused, built around copy trading and competitive futures fees. Gate.io is a breadth play, listing more assets than almost any other centralized exchange and getting new tokens to market faster.
In short: if you want the deepest altcoin perp coverage available, Gate.io lists more pairs than any competitor. If you want a tighter futures experience with integrated copy trading and lower taker fees via token discounts, Bitget is the more focused venue.
Gate.io's defining strength. The platform supports 3,800+ spot assets and 560+ perpetual futures pairs, dwarfing Bitget's 745 spot tokens and roughly 200 futures pairs. Gate.io also lists delivery futures on assets beyond BTC and ETH (including DOGE, SOL, LTC, and AVAX), which is uncommon. For traders who want perp exposure to newly listed tokens or speculative micro-caps, Gate.io consistently gets there first. You can compare pair availability on our perpetual exchanges overview.
Bitget's catalog is narrower but covers the pairs that drive real volume. If you primarily trade top-50 assets, the gap matters less than liquidity depth on those pairs.
Both charge 0.02% maker. Gate.io's taker sits at 0.05% versus Bitget's 0.06%, giving Gate.io a persistent cost edge on market orders. Both offer reductions through VIP tiers and native token holdings (GT and BGB respectively), with BGB discounting spot fees by up to 80%.
One structural difference worth noting: Gate.io settles funding rates every four hours rather than the industry-standard eight. Carry costs accumulate faster on Gate.io for anyone holding through multiple funding intervals. Check our live funding rates to compare the actual cost of holding the same position on both platforms.
Both offer it, but Bitget's is more developed. Separate copy systems for spot, futures, and bot strategies. Detailed leaderboards showing 90-day ROI, max drawdown, Sharpe ratio, and P&L curves. Copiers can set per-trade risk limits and choose between fixed-amount and proportional sizing. Bitget backs its ecosystem with a $300M+ Protection Fund.
Gate.io has copy trading with 127,000+ copiers and a searchable leaderboard ranked by ROI and risk score. It works, but the analytics depth and risk controls lag behind Bitget's.
Gate.io leads on total 24h volume and carries nearly double Bitget's open interest, driven heavily by its massive spot market. On major perp pairs, both provide reasonable depth. The gap shows on long-tail perps, where Gate.io's broader listing strategy means it often has active books on pairs Bitget does not carry at all.
That said, thin liquidity on low-cap perps is a risk on either platform. Large positions on speculative pairs will hit slippage regardless. You can monitor where pressure is building on our liquidation dashboard.
Both cap at 125x on BTC/USDT perps. Gate.io steps leverage down more aggressively as market cap decreases. The headline number matches, but practical max leverage on the pairs you actually trade may differ. Both run tiered margin with standard isolated and cross modes.
Gate.io has been operating since 2013 and experienced security incidents in its earlier years. It has since hardened infrastructure with cold storage, multi-sig, MPC encryption, and a user protection fund. On the regulatory side, Gate.io secured a full VARA operational license in Dubai in April 2025 alongside registrations with AUSTRAC (Australia), GFSC (Gibraltar), and SCB (Bahamas).
Bitget has not disclosed a major breach. It maintains a $300M+ Protection Fund and holds registrations including FinCEN MSB (US), OAM (Italy), VASP (Poland), and BSP (El Salvador). Broader geographic spread, but fewer tier-1 licenses compared to Gate.io's VARA and AUSTRAC approvals.
Both publish proof of reserves. Neither covers full liabilities, consistent with the rest of the industry.
Choose Gate.io if you want the widest asset coverage available, early access to new token perps, delivery futures beyond BTC/ETH, and stronger tier-1 licensing.
Choose Bitget if you want a focused derivatives experience, a mature copy trading system, and BGB token discounts that can bring effective fees below Gate.io's base rates for active traders.
